10 Minutes - Rode NT1A Studio Condenser Microphone Revisited

Hi. It’s Joe.

MyRode NT1A studio condenser microphone arrived.

I haven't used it yet. But I used my buddy Bryon's back in February to record this song.

We used it for everything except the bass guitar. All the vocals and the guitar were recorded on this microphone. Conversely, the drums are fake. They are Apple Loops.

Caitlin is off to visit family in Illinois the next couple of days. I am going to balance my books, work on vocals for my lesson tomorrow, practice GUPPY EFFECT songs for rehearsal tomorrow, and if I have time I will practice some piano for my lesson Monday.

Having a job I like and money again is pretty cool. Outside my living room window there is a light snow falling. Spring hasn't quite locked in for the duration yet. The neighbor kids are tooling around on their BMX bikes, bundled up in parkas and wool caps against the still nippy winter air.

Tonight, GUPPY EFFECT acoustic duo is going to rock a coffee shop gig at Waterhouse Foods Cafe in Lake Mills WI. It is from 7 to 9 PM and although there is a $2 cover, it is waived if you buy the house food dish for $5. Tonight it will be pesto and mushroom pasta, as requested by me. They always do a food dish requested by the performer. So it is like getting a free show and a dish of tasty food for only $3.

They also have booze and stuff at Waterhouse. Stefan is coming over around 5 PM to run through a few songs before the gig. My buddy Big Dave might come to the show. So it should be a good time.

Anyway, I literally have to cut this one off at 10 minutes, so I can get all this crap done before Stefan arrives at 5 PM. I hope you are having a fun time these days. I haven't heard from you in ages, so why don't you take 30 seconds to leave a brief comment on this post.

I would love to hear what you are up to.

(My GF Caitlin made this flyer. Isn't it good? I could be biased...)

5 Minutes - Job and Music and Stuff

Hi. It’s Joe.

I know. I know.

I haven’t been keeping up on these posts at all.

Things are going really well right now. I love my new job, even though it takes a lot of my time (hence the inability to maintain a consistent blog posting schedule).

My girlfriend Caitlin is also a joy to spend time with. We get along great. We both like a lot of the same things, primarily eating vegetables and exercising.

I have not been doing as much song writing since FAWM. GUPPY EFFECT is doing well, notwithstanding a lack of momentum. We seem to learn new songs periodically.

In fact, I am going to practice some songs tomorrow (Saturday) in anticipation of Sunday’s GUPPY EFFECT rehearsal. Drummer Peter will be back from Florida.

I have my vocal lesson Sunday at 12:30 too, so tonight and tomorrow I am going to rehearse for that, as well as my piano lesson Monday.

I like my new job on the face of it. But I also like having money to improve my rock-n-roll skills, so that I can rage at subsequent music performances, both solo and band.

I hope some people make the effort to come see me play. I don’t care if they do, because I do music for fun not livelihood. But the music is really fun(ny) and there is a lot of value in coming to party with me at my shows.

My new Rode NT1A studio condenser microphone is shipping as we speak (see above). I used one of these recording at my buddy Bryon's studio in Iowa a few weeks ago (during February Album Writing Month, actually) and I love the great sound it gets for vocals.

1 Minute - Another Test

Hi. It's Joe again.

I am just posting again briefly because I changed the settings on how my Android displays browser windows. It still sucks now, but it is better.

10 Minutes - This is a Test

Hi. It's Joe.

I am at Barriques in Middleton, typing this in on my Android phone. It's a real pain in the ass, although it beats doing it on my former Blackberry.

Tonight I am hosting open mic at Waterhouse Cafe in Lake Mills WI. My girl Caitlin will be there. We will have fun.

It is not so terrible to post to Joe's Coffee Fix using my Android phone. Cumbersome, but not disastrous.

Well, as you might guess, it takes a lot longer to post this way, so my time is actually up.

10 Minutes - Cowboy Mouth is Funtastic!

Hi. It's Joe.

I saw COWBOY MOUTH perform at High Noon Saloon in Madison WI on Thursday 2/24/11.

I reviewed the show for Madison Beatnik and the article is now live HERE, along with a short video I made with footage from the show. Please comment here or on the Madison Beatnik web site - www.madisonbeatnik.com.

My girlfriend's name is Caitlin. She is AWESOME. I just started dating her recently, but Magic 8 Ball says all signs point to groovy.

My new job is kickass too. I am really enjoying it. Today, I was going to crank out a ton of work, but I had to complete some radiation safety training, because the company makes high tech radiation therapy machines. So that and a meeting nuked about half my day (no pun intended). Still and all, I learned a shit ton about radiation.

Did you know it's a myth that radioactive things glow? Hot things glow, and radioactivity can heat things up to a glowing temperature, but radioactive materials in and of themselves do not glow. Also, did you know cigarettes contain polonium, a significant source of background radiation? Whose asshat idea was it to put polonium in cigarettes? Aren't they carcinogenic enough without adding an isotope? Jesus.

Anyway, life is good. As you know, I can't touch base as often as I'd like because of the new job, GF, and rocking. But I will try and make an appearance as often as I can. SUBSCRIBE using the tool on the upper right and then the Intarwebs will automatically alert you next time I post.
